The summertime brings with it many things, and usually for me it brings lots of late night food and snacking. I really do think I eat more in the summer, just because I'm both home more and out more. This summer in particular, I've really been trying to get into a routine of healthier eating so that hopefully, I'll continue it in Israel and not gain weight while I'm there.
While we're on the subject, I really want to talk about this for a second. As far as I've heard, lots of girls who go to seminary gain weight in Israel and strangely boys usually lose weight. To be quite honest, I most probably will gain weight haha. I LOVE food, but in particular, Israel food is AMAZING. I love it all no joke.
I've talked to lots of girls about this, because I'm terrified of coming back a whale.
But I've decided that you know what!? Five pounds won't kill me. (Hopefully that's the most it could be lol) I don't want to be missing out on the Israel experience by focusing so much on what I eat and how much I eat and when I eat. I truly want to enjoy myself.
With that being said, I still do want to stay aware of my food and weight just so that I can stay balanced and healthy.
My resolutions?
I'm really going to try not to order pizza at 2 am. And maybe I'll limit shwarma to just once a week.
Wait. Who am I kidding! Twice a week lol.
I don't want to be one of those girls who's obsessed with their weight, or one who eats whatever whenever. It's all about finding the balance! Hopefully I can do that.
Okay, now enough of my ranting, back to the snacks!

When Craving Something Sweet...
1. Dried Mango - I pound these little bags from Trader Joes. They're SOO good. Sweet, tangy, chewy.. My version of candy.

2. Banana and Chocolate Chips - Totally hits the spot when I'm having a chocolate craving, which happens quite often. Try to use dark chocolate because it's more nutritious than milk chocolate. You can also sprinkle some cinnamon on top for some added spice. (I put cinnamon on most things... I love the stuff!)
3. "PB & A" Sandwiches - Slice up apples the same way you would cut a tomato for a hamburger. Spread some peanut butter in between two slices, and add some granola in the middle for a nice crunch. (If you want to be even fancier, add dark chocolate chips or raisins too!) This does take a little bit more time, but it's worth it, trust me!
4. Blueberries, Sour Cream (or Cottage Cheese), & Cinnamon - Sprinkle with either cinnamon for some spice or agave nectar for added sweetness.
5. PB + Chocolate (and/or coffee) Shake - This recipe is courtesy of my mom. So delish.
Throw 1 frozen banana, 2 tbs. of PB2 (dehydrated peanut butter - tastes exactly the same but has less calories!), 2 tbs. of cocoa powder or 1 tbs. instant coffee, and one cup almond milk in a blender. Blend until smooth.

When Craving Something Savory...
1. Crackers, Cheese, and Avocado - I usually take whole grain Ritz crackers, but other crackers could work as well. Top the crackers with little slices of low fat mozzarella cheese and a cube of avocado.
2. Rice Cakes and Cream Cheese - The rice cakes I love to use for this are the Lundberg Brown Rice Cakes from Trader Joes.
3. Carrots, Sugar Snap Peas, and Hummus - I know this is a classic, but I had to include it because I love this snack! It's just so easy and fast.
4. Gluten Free Pretzels and Peanut Butter - My favorite pretzels of all time are the gluten free kind. I honestly think they taste better than the regular kind!
5. Seasoned Tomatoes Slices - This one is really simple, but one of my favorites. Just slice up some tomatoes and sprinkle them with a little salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
Happy Snacking!
