Happy Purim Everyone!
I really hope everyone's enjoying their Purim so far.
If you're like me, and you leave your costumes to the last minute, here are some quick and easy DIY costumes you can create in a matter of minutes.
***Also****
I really want to emphasize how holy Purim is, and how especially powerful prayer is on this day. They say that Purim is just as holy as Yom Kippur!
To fully take advantage of this, my friends and I have a tradition (that we only started last year... lol) to go down to the beach right by sunrise time to daven.
I love doing this because it's so much easier to have concentration when there's time set aside early in the morning (before the crazy day starts) to daven, and because it's hard not to want to talk to G-d after witnessing the sun rise over the ocean. It's just breathtaking.
Anyways, CHAG SAMEACH!!
Love, Z
Costume 1: Lady Bug
You will need:
-Black Kiki Riki
-Black flowy skirt
-Red belt
-Black stretchy headband
-Red/Black/orWhite shoes
-Red and Black construction paper
-Scissor
-Tape
-Round Cup
-Pencil
-Ruler
-2 red/black/white pipe cleaners
To make wings:
1. Fold red paper in half.
2. With ruler and pencil, mark 2.5 inches from the top of the paper.
3. Start cutting a half circle starting from that point. Then go back and round out the rest of paper.
4. Open up the red paper, and cut where there's a mark from the fold.
5. Fold black paper six times.
6. Trace cup with the pencil.
7. Cut circle shape.
8. Tape three black circles onto each red wing.
9. Attach a safety pin in the center at the top of wing, and pin wings to back of shirt.
To make antennas:
1. Fold pipe cleaners into a #2 shape.
2.Then take the top of the 2 and continue folding it so that it begins to look like a swirl.
3. Slide each pipe cleaner underneath the black headband.
4. Secure with bobby pins.
Makeup:
Eyes - I used a light shimmery champagne shadow on the lid, a light to medium brown in the crease, a white shimmery shadow in the inner corners, and black on the outside waterline - going only about 1/2 of the way. Then I made a thin line of black liquid eyeliner from the inner waterline and extending it out with a wing. After each wing was made, I took my pinky finger and slid it up and out right next to the wing to extend it. Underneath the wing, and on the lower inner corner of the eye, I drew three dots. I finished with a couple coats of mascara.
Face - Concealer underneath the eyes and on problem areas, powder to set. Bronzer to contour.
Lips - Red Lipstick
Costume 2: Greek Goddess
Items needed:
-Long white bed sheet
-safety pins
-white kiki riki
-white pencil skirt
-sandals
-gold jewelry
-gold belt
-gold headband
-leaves (real or fake)
Instructions:
1.Fold the sheet in half and wrap it around you, but keep the front open
2.Take one side of the sheet and pin it to your hip
3.Take the other side of the sheet and pin it to the back of your shoulder
4.Wrap gold belt around waist
5.Add jewelry and sandals
How to make leaves crown:
1. Take three leaves and tape it to one side of headband. Cut away excess tape.
2. Repeat process to the other side
Hair and Makeup:
For hair, I just made a messy fishtail side braid.
For makeup, I put a gold shimmery shadow on the inner tear ducts of my eyes and on the lids. For the crease, I kept it natural with a medium brown matte shadow. I then added some thin liner with a small wing, and a couple coats of black mascara. I also brushed some shimmery bronzer on my cheekbones. Lastly, for lips, I added a frosty gold/nude lipstick.
Costume #3: Miley Cyrus
You will need:
-A fur vest or coat
-White, tight kiki riki
-Black pencil skirt
-White keds
-gold chunky necklace
-big/crazy sunglasses
-a foam finger, or a big teddy bear
Hair&Makeup:
For hair, I did the classic miley two mini buns. I parted my hair all the way down the middle. Then using a brush, I brought one side of hair to the top of my head, twisted it and wrapped it around, creating a mini bun. I repeated this to the other side, and secured them with a hair tie.
For makeup, I kept a pretty neutral eye and face, but added the red lips.
Costume #4: Audrey Hepburn; Breakfast at Tiffany's
You will need:
-A black sleeveless dress
-A black kiki riki
-White gloves
-Black pumps
-Some sort of big sparkly necklace (Mine was already sown on the dress)
Hair&Makeup:
For hair, I made a pony tail with my hands, smoothing the sides with a brush, and brought it up all the way to the top of my head. I then twisted the pony and wrapped it around itself creating a top knot. I took both sides of the bun, stretched the bun a little, and pinned both sides down with bobby pins.
For makeup, I intensified my brows, and created a very thick and dramatic eyeliner wing look. I kept the rest of my face pretty neutral.
But wait! There's more!!
It just so happens to be that my sister (who's living in the Big Apple right now) also did a DIY costume! And I couldn't not show it, because I'm OBESSED with it!!
